Good afternoon friends!

Deuteronomy 21:10-25:19

Of the 613 commandments of the Torah, 74 are contained in the chapter Ki-Tetze. These include the "law of the beautiful captive," the law of the inheritance rights of the firstborn, the laws of the "rebellious son," the laws of burial and respect for the body of the deceased, the laws of returning lost things, the prohibition of taking chicks from the nest in the presence of their mother, the commandment to build a fence around the roof of the house, and the prohibition of various forms of kilaim (mixing of plant and animal species).

The chapter also includes laws regarding the purity of a military camp; the prohibition on returning a slave who has escaped to Israel; the obligation to pay a day laborer on time and to allow both people and animals to eat during harvest work; regulations regarding the treatment of a debtor and the prohibition on charging interest on a loan; laws regarding divorce (from which many of the laws regarding marriage are derived); the provision for a penalty of 39 lashes for violating a Torah prohibition; the procedure of yibum (levirate marriage) with the widow of a childless brother, or chalitza (taking off shoes) - in the event that the brother of the deceased does not want to marry her.

The chapter ends with a command to remember "what Amalek did to you on the way, after you came out of Egypt."
