On August 17, 2005 (the 12th of the Hebrew month of Av), the forced deportation of residents of Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip began. This was carried out as part of the unilateral disengagement program.
The deportation of residents from 22 settlements lasted five days and was completed on August 22. Residents of the village of Netzer Hazani were the first to be deported, and the village of Netzarim was the last. A total of 8,600 residents and approximately 5,000 right-wing activists who had been there protesting the disengagement were expelled from the Gaza Strip.
With the exception of a few isolated incidents, particularly during the evacuation of residents of the settlement of Kfar Darom, there was no resistance.
